Foundation Studies

Foundation programmes are ideal for people who don’t meet the entry requirements for a specific course they want to study, are unsure of what programme to study, or have been out of study for a long time. Students will graduate ready to jump straight into their next course, or with the confidence to use the skills they already have.

Media arts

Students studying the media arts stream of Te Ara Putake, will hone their craft in music studios, iMac-based design labs, art rooms, a newsroom, and editing suites. They will also use specialist equipment like DSLR cameras and Adobe design software.

Health and wellbeing

Foundation courses in the subject of health and wellbeing will be based in our training nursing ward.

Students looking into a trades foundation course, will be based out at our Rotokauri campus, in a workshop with areas for automotive, electrical, plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying, and mechanical.

Horticulture students will be working at the Hamilton Gardens campus, with a wide variety of trees and plants to identify and care for, workshops to create landscape features in, and bright classrooms to learn theory in before going out into the gardens to get inspiration and sketch.

  • Enhance study skills

We have programmes that help students develop study skills and allows them to discover what is expected at tertiary level study. There are specific pathways if students are interested in further study, eg health, sport science.

A range of short courses are also available. These include grammar and report writing online, basic computing, and a variety of Adult Community Education classes that are offered in partnership with community education providers.
